Google Maps really needs to update the names of places in Old Town. There are so many name changes and a plethora of new eateries and drinkeries that I often give up when trying to discover the name of local places. A case in point is the stretch of Thepkrassatri Road both north and south of Thalang Road (the “heart” of Old Phuket Town). There are numerous new businesses in the area specializing in food or other means of sustenance but zooming-in on Google Maps does not yield more than two or three results. One of those is marked the Rasta Cafe but was renamed Beer Sound nearly a year ago (they specialize in Turkish food).
I took walking by it again to learn that its name is Sweet Shop but I refer to it by the painted words next to the entrance: “Will you melt me?” They sell ice cream, of course. I’m told it’s very good and hope to try it someday very soon. I pass it by several times each week while walking to the bus stop on the first stage of my journey to work. Just look for the giant cone on the sidewalk and you will find it. You can even sit on a melting bench while you wait. Prices start at 45 baht, according to a video screen adjacent to the order counter. They are closed on Mondays.

I scream. You scream. We all scream for ice cream!
