WWW Wednesdays #54

WWW Wednesdays is a bookish meme that was formerly hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm and revived by “fledgling writer” Sam A. Stevens on Taking on a World of Words. To participate, you just answer the Three W’s:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

Currently Reading:

How the Penguins Saved Veronica by Hazel Prior (published March 5, 2020)

This is a fun book and is proving to be a quick read. I have long loved penguins (I do like puffins just a tad more) so it is interesting to see them featured so prominently in a novel.

The Wild West: History, Myth and the Making of America by Frederick Nolan (published March 30, 2020)

I just started this history of the West; it doesn’t dwell on details (for example, the entire Lewis & Clark expedition is covered in just two or three pages) but I have already come across a few new-to-me facts and personalities.

The Daily Stoic: 366 Meditations on Wisdom, Perseverance, and the Art of Living by Ryan Holiday (published October 18, 2016)

Recently Finished:

A Century of Great Western Stories: An Anthology of Western Fiction edited by John Jakes (published June 23, 2001)

I have to say that I enjoyed EVERY story in this collection and plan to seek out additional works by a number of the authors contained within.

The Bullet Swallower by Elizabeth Gonzalez James (published January 23, 2024)

This was a wonderful, albeit at times violent and odd, magical realism Western novel. You can read my full review here.

Reading Next:

The Way of the Bear by Anne Hillerman (published April 25, 2023)
The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton (published February 8, 2018)

Happy Reading!
